Skin Scrape

A skin scrape sample is a quick test to check for some types of parasites on your pet’s skin. To collect the sample, a dulled scalpel blade is scraped across the skin surface several times and the material it gathers is examined under the microscope during your pet’s appointment. This necessary process is not painful, but it will leave a shallow red scrape on your pet’s skin that will heal within a few days. Skin scrapes are often performed at your pet’s first appointment, but will not be repeated unless your pet is diagnosed with a parasite that requires monitoring during treatment.
